| Information note from ABP ports
group: (Cardiff is part of ABP ports) (1) Oil: most ABP ports expect ships of their agents to make separate arrangements for the disposal of oil and the wastes listed. This service is bought in from specialist, licensed waste contractors and is generally NOT provided as part of the port's own waste management arrangements. Only ABP Ipswich includes the removal of oil within the fees charged for waste management. Reception facilities, the costs involved and the provision of advance notification are all left to local arrangements within the ports. (2 )Noxious Liquid Substances: ABP's Port Waste Management plans state that should facilities for this Annex be required, they can be obtained from specialist waste contractors. The ship ( or agent on her behalf) would negociate the rate paid for the service. ABP does not provide these facilities but tells the ship/agent which waste contractors are approved to operate in the port. (3) Sewage: No ABP port handles sewage as part of their port waste provision but all port Waste Management Plans have details for aproved and licensed waste contractors who will remove it from the ship at a rate negociated between the two parties. (4) Garbage: All ABP ports provide quayside bins for ship-generated garbage, including both food waste and maintenance waste. [N.B. "maintenace" waste referred to as "operational" waste and it dealt with under separate arrangments from food waste and garbage from crews quarters. In the UK, food waste is categorised as being of EU or non-EU origin and separate handling arrangements have to be organised to ensure it is disposed of properly. (5) The "type of reception facilities" and the "notice" depend on local arrangements. |
