Port reception facilities

The last oil spills occured in European waters have drawn attention to disastrous marine pollution.

Besides that, usual and daily pollution caused by illegal dumping at sea have harmful effects on the marine environment.

The unique solution to reduce illicit discharge at sea is to improve discharge in ports.

The first condition is that ports are equipped.

21 years after the entry in force of MARPOL 73/78 and after the ratification of directive 2000/59/EC,
Keep it Blue took the initiative to approach 252 ports of the European Union plus Norway and Iceland (22 States)
to try to get a precise vision of adequate ship waste reception facilities in european ports.

Wastes are classified according to IMO regulations.

Keep It Blue filled out this database thanks to data sent by 92 ports,

and data provided by IMO concerning 130 ports.

30 ports did not answer and no information was available from IMO.

We aim to improve this database with further information.
